Hansen 2020 Intros

David L Hansen
December 24, 1936 – January 2. 2023
May you make beautiful flowers in Heaven

Mary and I were able to move a good sized group of selected seedlings Dave had previously selected to our garden. Hopefully as these seedlings bloom, we can select some to introduce in memory of Dave.

Not only was Dave a great friend, he was a wonderful ambassador for Daylilies. He donated plants to Nebraska Daylily Society and Region One for years. Dave also enjoyed giving seeds and sharing information with young hybridizers. I have had more than one young hybridizer tell me how much they owed Dave for helping them to get started hybridizing. Dave loved showing visitors his garden and sharing his passion to hybridize the perfect red daylily. With lots of teeth of course.

If you like toothy edges then the Hansen intros will surely excite you. Teeth ranging in colors of gold and white plus combination of the two. All of the David and Val Jean’s introductions we grow are also listed in our general listing. The newer arrivals to our garden as well as the plants that are limited inventory are listed as “DISPLAY”. Dave and Val Jean’s intros are very popular, be sure to order early. Check back to see if your favorites are available as well.

About Us

Our garden is located in Oakland a small rural town is Southwest Iowa near Shenandoah where the AHS began. We are a small state inspected daylily nursery with somewhat limited numbers of any given daylily. Garden bloom usually starts late June and runs through late July. We have collected several bloom season extending cultivars with extra early varieties, plus late and extra late varieties. Depending on the year we can have good rebloom.

Mary and I started growing daylilies over 20 years ago. Daylilies seem to love the deep soil here in our Iowa garden and have prospered. We presently grow over 1000 registered varieties of daylilies plus our seedlings. Our interest in daylilies includes all forms from miniatures, doubles, large flower, unusual forms and spiders.
